Grade: 5th, 6th & 7th (class of 2015, 2014 & 2013)

Coach De's Background
Mr. de Laveaga brings over 15 years of experience
at the professional, college and competitive youth basketball levels
to the Gym Rats USA program.
He was named first team All-American
and was awarded National Player of the Year honors in 1991 as well
as player of the year three consecutive years in his conference.
He led the Nation in three pointers made 1990 and 1991 and
currently holds six (6) individual school scoring records.
After leading the nation in
scoring at 29.8 and 28.7 his final two years in college,
he was invited to tryout with the San Antonio Spurs in 1991
His dedication and work ethic provided him
an opportunity to continue his professional career in
Australia from 1991 to 1996. His scoring abilities soared to a new
level, as he lead the Australian National League in scoring at 41.5
points per game. He was named Most Valuable Player in 1992 and was
a First Team All Star 1992, 1993, 1994 and 1995.
He still holds the single game scoring record of 84 points,
which featured going 18 for 23 from the three-point line.
While playing in Australia, he directed the junior program for his club.
The program consisted of 5000 youth basketball players, 55 coaches and 25 schools.
He organized and participated in elementary and middle school clinics for every
youth school in the surrounding districts and motivated young athletes to
become involved with the game of basketball.
He held individual clinics daily for over 2000 youths and conducted seasonal
basketball camps that attracted over 10,000 youths, annually.
Coaching Philosophy
Coach De's training philosophy is now practiced throughout Australia.
He has passed on to numerous young athletes his individual workout program,
designed to improve skill sets.
Coach De has been privileged to work with some of the biggest names in basketball:
John Wooden, Pat Riley, Magic Johnson and Byron Scott.
He has modeled his training program from the best features of the programs
developed by these influential men.
Gym Rats started in 2003 under Coach De's leadership and system. Every team drastically improved throughout the season
and when it was all said and done, the Arizona GYM RATS have won (23) State of Arizona Championships, (213)
Competitive local and out-of-state Tournaments and (7) National Championship and racked up over (2300) Club Wins!
Coach De's system works at every level and his focus to improve his players is a winning combination.
